There are many ways to book your trip.  Here are some suggestions.

NOTE: Southwest is flying DIRECT from Austin to Cancun!  If you don’t see a nonstop flight, change your departure day.  They only fly direct on certain days of the week.  Most often we see flights on Wednesday, Sunday & Monday (although, all days have had flights in the past)

IMPORTANT! Check your flight DEPARTURE time for your return trip.  You can get CHEAP airfare that leaves at 7am.  However, the first Ferry is at 5:30am and there is NO WAY you will make it.  I usually make sure we leave after 9am just to be safe.

Option 1:  Book flight with airline and book hotel with Marla at Isla Mujeres Budget Rentals,  Isla Mujeres Vactation Rentals, or Isla Mujeres Luxury Rentals  depending on your travel style. You can pay for your hotel through Wells Fargo bank transfer, mail her a check (in the US) or PayPal.

Option 2:  Book directly with your airline and hotel.  Do this if you need a specific airline for frequent flier miles or other reason.

Option 3:  Use a travel service like Funjet.  Sometimes, they offer good deals and direct flights because they charter their own plane to Cancun.

Option 4: Orbitz (or other all-in-one travel site).

TIP:  Book your trip on a Wednesday.  We saved $75 a ticket by waiting to book on a Wednesday.  Not guaranteed but it might help. (you can travel any day)

ORBITZ TIPS

We book through Orbitz a lot.  It’s a great place to watch for deals as well.  However, navigating to the Isla page requires a little trickery.

1. Choose “Flight and Hotel” at the top of the page.

2. Enter your departure city and CUN as your arrival city (Cancun International Airport).

3. Click search and wait for results.  Results that are shown are for hotels in CANCUN.  Here is the trickery…. On the left side, there is a section called “Our Most Booked Areas.”  Click on Isla Mujeres (NOT Playa Mujeres).  See that green arrow and red circle in the screen shot?

4.  Now you should see hotels on Isla Mujeres.  You aren’t finished yet.

5.  Orbitz only has contracts with SOME hotels and are only given a few rooms at each.  If your hotel says “no dates available,” contact Marla or the hotel directly.  Chances are, there are still a few rooms available and they just sold all of their “Orbitz rooms.”
