Here are just a few logistics for travel and whatnot
Before you leave, book a private transfer with CARM (http://www.cancunandrivieramaya.com/) Choose the transfer for Puerto Juarez (Isla Mujeres)–(NOT Playa Mujeres! That’s a different place altogether). It is $65 round trip for a private van. You pay-in-full online and tip the driver upon arrival and on the way back to the airport. Also, keep in mind that a taxi for two people is around $45 each way so this is the best option. Tell Trina we sent you when you book.
TIP: You can buy the expensive beer at the bar or have your driver stop at the convenience store just outside of the airport. There is no charge to stop at the store.
At the Ferry, you will need cash to buy a ticket if you did not preorder one from the CARM website. Round trip tickets are currently 200 pesos per person (~$10 USD). Either bring enough American cash to buy your tickets or you can pulse out pesos at the RED ATM that is OUTSIDE the convenience store (Oxxo). The other ATM (not RED) only gives US Dollars (it is definitely best to use pesos from here on out). There may be an ATM inside the OXXO as well but sometimes it is out of order. There are also ATM’s on the island. On the island, there is an HSBC ATM across from the ferry, in the Super Express in the square, at Chedraui and at Bancomer on Morelos (pedestrian only street). See MONEY tab for more info on pesos.
When you arrive on the island, you will most likely need a cab to get to your hotel (with a few exceptions, see Where to Stay). Turning left out of the ferry terminal you will find a taxi stand full of red taxis. There are PLENTY of people to help you. Unless you are staying at Posada del Mar or Rocamar, don’t use one of the tricycle drivers for your luggage. They will tell you that your hotel is within walking distance, but it may not be tired-from-traveling-all-day-and-hot-from-wearing-jeans-on-the-plane kind of walking distance. If you are staying at PDM or Rocamar, use Chino the tricycle driver.
